             NEW Memory Schedule

             Wed 28/3  1 Cor 13:1-5
             Wed 11/4  1 Cor 13:1-7
             Wed 25/4  1 Cor 13:1-10
             Wed 9/5  1 Cor 13:1-13

1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

REMINDER: next week (March 12-16) is Exam Week and we will dismiss at 12:20 each day!

Each team will be assigned a missionary from history and will compile information to display on a poster board (cartulina) and present in front of the class during exam week (March 12-16). The poster can include pictures, quotes, text and decorations of your group's choice, but it MUST include information about the following components:
  • childhood and calling to the mission field
  • people group to whom they ministered
  • challenges they faced and type of work they did
  • death and lasting impression on the world

The presentation will be short (5-10 minutes) but each student should should share some part of the information with the class.

This project is worth 30 points of the History grade for this partial.

This week we talked a little bit about personal characteristics and how those sometimes line up with the meaning of a person's name. The Bible shows us that names are very important and can form someone's personality or identity. However, God also gives us a choice, whether or not we want to become who our name says we are. So I did some research on all of the first names in our class, and here are some of the meanings that I found:

Ana - gracious, woman of grace
Andrea - courageous
Ariana - holy, set apart
Asly - beautiful meadow
Evette - life, abundance
Ivanna - gift from God
Jensy - beautiful spirit
Karina - pure and clean
Mariam - wished for child
Valery - brave
Vivian - full of life
Abner - father of light
Carlos - manly, strong
Daniel - God is my judge
Jimmy - representative, agent
Luis - famous warrior
Marcello - war-like
Marco - guardian
Miguel - like God
Mike - like God
William - protector

Wow! Those are some incredible and important  names! All of us have the potential inside of us to be the people of God who rise up and fulfill these meanings, but only if we decided that is what we want to do. John 10:2-4 tells us that we are His and He calls us "by name." What an amazing privilege to be known by the Creator of the universe and to have Him call us by our names! I hope we never forget that God knows who we are and also who we can be if we give our whole lives to Him. We can be brave, strong, pure, holy, beautiful, gracious, and so much more if only we allow Him to take control of our lives and mold us into people who are more like Him!
